Per the Contractor's State License Board (CSLB memo #22-08), effective January 1, 2023, the following construction license designations will need to maintain Worker's Compensation Insurance:
C-8: Concrete
C-20: HVAC
C-22: Asbestos Abatement
D49: Tree service
These classes join the current requirement that the roofing contractors (C-39) maintain Worker's Compensation Insurance; whether they have employees or not.
Starting January 2026, all licensed contractors in California will need to maintain Workers Compensation Insurance regardless of whether they have employees or not. To determine if your contractor has Workers Compensation Insurance or not, visit the CSLB at: Check A License - CSLB (ca.gov) or call or office for assistance.
